Health Insurance & Self Pay

Mr Gordon is recognised as a Specialist Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon by most major insurance companies. Please contact your insurance company before your first consultation and for all subsequent visits and investigations or interventions. You will need to obtain a preauthorisation number for each of these episodes. Please read the guidance from the Federation of Independent Practitioner Organisations (FIPO).

How much do the consultations costs?

Mr Gordon charges within all health insurers limits and you should not have any out of pocket expenses, except where a policy excess is due. Mr Gordon is BUPA ‘Fee Assured’ meaning you will not be liable for additional charges.

Please be aware that you will be liable for any costs incurred that are not covered by your insurance company. Please check the fine print of you Private insurance contract for “excess payments” on your policy.

Do I need a referral from my GP of Physiotherapist?

Most medical insurers request a referral from your GP or other specialist before agreeing to cover costs. Please contact your insurer before your first appointment to clarify what your policy requires. If any queries are raised by your insurer, please contact Mr Gordon’s PA Helen Sellars on 020 7993 2373.

Can I refer myself to Mr Gordon?

If you are self funding (paying yourself rather than using a health insurer), you may refer yourself. However, if you are using health insurance, a referral from your GP or other specialist is usually required.

What if I don’t have health insurance (I am self funding)?

If you are not insured, we will be happy to assist you in explaining costs, depending on what is needed. Please go here for details on fees.

I am self funding when will I have to pay?

Fees for outpatient consultations may be paid at the time of your consultation (by cheque or cash) or in advance by bank transfer (please call Mr Gordon’s PA Helen Sellars on 020 7993 2373 for details) .
For surgical procedures, fees are payable to the hospital prior to admission.

The hospital will take a copy of your credit or debit card details to cover any potential costs incurred by the hospital. These details are not passed on to Mr Gordon and cannot be used to settle any payments due- consultation fees will need to be paid separately.
